Yamas and Niyamas
The concept of taming one's self is often translated through the imagery of a tamed horse or ox - one which can wear a bridle (Yama) is evidently at least somewhat tamed. Yamas (and Niyamas) are evidences of this gentleness, which in English has the similar double meaning of nobility. This is part of the reason it is said, with double meaning, only a devotee of Vishnu can master Yama, can hold their own bridle.
