Today is Vasantha Panchami. Vasant Panchami is celebrated every year on the 5th day or 'Panchami' of the bright fortnight of the lunar month of Magha. It is believed that on this day Saraswati was born. The most significant aspect of Vasant Panchami is that it is also the most auspicious day to begin laying foundations of education. It is essentially a spring festival, and a festival of Kama, and Kama's "wife," Rati. Rati is both an exciting force upon Kama, and also a moderator or governor: in stories Rati is depicted as acting like a nanny, a governess, a bodyguard, defender, and the ideal lover - one who loves Love truly!
On this day, we love Love truly - and discover Kama, the beginning of all learning. In this way we honor Saraswati.
