Five reflections - Anguttara Nikaya 5.57
The Buddha Gotama said that there are five facts which a person should reflect upon often.
Reflect that, “I am subject to aging. I am aging, I will age.”
Reflect that, “I am subject to illness. I am not presently in perfect health, I will become ill again.”
Reflect that, “I am subject to death. I am dying, I will die.”
Reflect that, “I shall change, and grow different, and all that I hold dear and appealing will separate from me, and I from them.”
Reflect that, “I am heir to my choices in action. My choices in action made me who I am, they will make my ending. No one can escape the consequences of their actions of body, speech and mind. Whatever I do, good or evil, to that I am heir.
